A Queensland man has been charged with more than 30 historical child sex offences following an investigation into the alleged abuse of multiple teenage boys over more than two decades in the Shoalhaven. Police received information six boys had been allegedly sexually assaulted by a man while under his care at religious youth groups in Nowra, Bomaderry, Sussex Inlet and Kings Cross between 1968 and 1990.
The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, moved from NSW in 1994 and now resides in Northgate in Queensland. Following extensive investigations by South Coast Police, a 68-year-old man, who was a former youth worker, was issued a court attendance notice on Thursday, June 10 for 33 offences including buggery, indecent assault, sexual assault and incite an indecent act on a person.
Court documents revealed seven alleged charges of sexual intercourse with a victim under the age of 16 without their consent.
The alleged incidents happened at Bomaderry between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1988. Court files also reveal there were four alleged charges of committing an act of indecency while committing sexual assault. It is alleged the man "spooned" his victims from behind and rubbed his erect penis on their back, while in a tent on a group camp.
Seven charges of inciting a person to an act of indecency while committing sexual assault were also alleged, against multiple victims. Included in these charges, police allege the accused incited victims to apply cream to his genitals. Two charges of buggery against one victim at Bomaderry in 1968 and in 1970, were also outlined in court documents.
No details of what youth group the man was part of were presented to the court. The man was scheduled to appear at the Nowra Local Court Monday, August 2, however did not appear with Magistrate Lisa Viney commenting this was likely due to the Queensland COVID-19 lockdown. The matter was adjourned, with the accused due to appear in Nowra Local Court on September 27.
