BAY CITY, MI - An annual fundraiser to help children protect Bay County children from abuse and neglect is moving outdoors this year.

The annual CAN Council’s ‘Dine & Unwind’ fundraiser event, presented this year by the Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union, is scheduled from 5:30-9 p.m. September 22 at Wenonah Park.

This annual event is critical to the CAN Council’s services to protect Bay County children from abuse and neglect, raising funds both through public ticket sales, event sponsorships and a silent auction, according to a press release.

“This outdoor concept for Dine & Unwind will be a fun way to welcome a new season and support these important programs for our children,” said Emily Yeager, CAN Council President and CEO. “We’re hopeful this broad appeal will allow us to generate the necessary funds to prevent a reduction of services for local children and families.”

Attendees will get a chance to feast on autumn-inspired dishes prepared by local restaurants and seasonal Michigan craft beers, ciders, and wine.

The event also features an online silent auction, cornhole, raffles, photo booth, and music. For those that prefer to participate from home, there is no fee to register for the online silent auction.

The challenges of protecting our community’s children are exacerbated during the economic stress of this pandemic,” said Yeager. “Our organization is committed to conquering these challenges so we can remain vigilant and reliable advocates for our children. A necessary means to that end is finding innovative ways to raise money.”

General admission tickets are priced at $75 and each ticket includes event entry, local food, and 10 drink tasting tickets.

The CAN Council is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect through its nationally accredited and evidence-based education, intervention and advocacy programs, per the release. Founded in 1979, the CAN Council has consistently grown over the past 42 years to meet the needs of the community’s children and families, providing services in Arenac, Bay, Huron and Saginaw counties.
