HITCHCOCK,TEXAS: Hitchcock police have shot and killed George Alejandro, a man wanted in a case involving sexual assault of a child, after a pursuit in Houston. The incident took place on Tuesday, March 7, west of the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston.
Since February, Alejandro, 54, has been under investigation for sexually assaulting a minor. A warrant was issued against him and he was about to be arrested when he fled in an 18-wheeler-type vehicle, ultimately pulling off into a parking lot and pointing a gun at police officers who fatally shot him, according to a report by KHOU.
George Alejandro admitted to his crime
In a statement released by the police on Wednesday, March 8, police chief Wilmon Smith said, "Hitchcock police in February began investigating an allegation of sexual contact between George Alejandro, 54, and a 13-year-old girl. The investigation revealed that Alejandro had met the girl on social media and communicated with her online."
According to the documents, Alejandro admitted to his crimes. Smith said, "During an interview with the suspect, he admitted to detectives that he picked the victim up near her school in Hitchcock and took her to a hotel where he had sexual intercourse with her throughout the day."
After concluding the investigation, police charged Alejandro with sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Officers tracked Alejandro to an area of southeast Houston and attempted a traffic stop when he fled the scene, leading to a short chase into a local business parking lot.
He verbally made it clear that he did not intend to go to jail. He then exited his vehicle with a gun which he "raised at officers," resulting in two Hitchcock police officers firing an unknown amount of shots at him. No officers were injured during the shooting.
What will happen to the officers involved?
As a matter of procedure, both officers involved in the incident, whose names have not been revealed, are on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The Houston police department and the Harris County district attorney's office have now taken over the investigation.
