A Las Vegas mother faces a felony child abuse charges after police found she was living in a home with highly unsanitary conditions with a young child and was reported to be engaging in “drug activity.”

Amanda Sandoval, 32, began to be investigated after an unknown individual called for a welfare check on her child after he was missing from school for several days and the person said they saw Sandoval involved with drugs near Family Dollar, close to where she lives.

According to the reporting party, the young child had said he was cold and feeling sick prior to the person calling the police.

When officers arrived at Sandoval’s home on Plata Drive, she allowed them to come inside and check the living situation. Officers found dirty dishes and clothes piled up, and the fridge was not working, according to court documents.

Officers said the house smelled like “rotten food,” and that the only food they could find in the home were ramen noodles, potatoes and a gallon of milk that was not being refrigerated, but that Sandoval said they had been drinking anyway.

The house was not heated, with the only heat coming from a small heater in the home’s bedroom, which was not providing much warmth, according to officers.

When officers entered the bathroom, they said they observed urine and feces in the bathtub, and Sandoval reportedly told officers they had been using the bathroom in the bathtub instead of showering in it.

After going through the home, officers took the child out of the home after establishing that the home was not suitable for living. The case was handed over to CYFD for further investigation and placement of the child.

Sandoval faces a preliminary examination in the case on Dec. 27 in the courtroom of Melanie Rivera.
