ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested earlier this month on charges stemming from the sexual abuse of a minor child.

Reports from Sgt. Pennington of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office indicate that, at approximately 8:35 am on October 26, 2022, contact was made with Sgt. Pennington regarding sexual abuse/child abuse allegations.

The caller, the parent of the child, reported that the child had made allegations of sexual contact against a Christopher Markley.

Child Protective Services was contacted and a forensic interview set up at the Randolph County Child Advocacy Center.

During the interview, which was observed by Sgt. Pennington, the juvenile advised that oral sexual intercourse with Markley had taken place during or around the time of October 8, 2022.

On November 16, 2022, Markley was interviewed at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office regarding the allegations, an interview for which Sgt. Loudin of the West Virginia State Police was also present by request of Sgt. Pennington.

Markley was advised of his Miranda Rights during the interview as well as his ability to leave if he wished. A waiver was signed, and Markley agreed to speak with the officers.

During this exchange, Markley is reported to have given admissions corroborating disclosures of the juvenile made during the interview with the latter including those of oral sexual intercourse on or around October 8, 2022, as well as prior sexual intercourse having occurred.

Two days later, on November 18, 2022, a warrant for Markley’s arrest was granted following the filing of a criminal complaint at the Randolph County Magistrate’s Office.

Markley was then arraigned and transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

Christopher Markley faces charges of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian or Person in a Position of Trust to a Child.
