ELKINS — A Randolph County man was arrested on Monday after authorities accused him of abusing and injuring a child.

Kevin Ray White, 55, has been charged with felony child abuse resulting in injury of a child and is currently incarcerated in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.

According to the criminal complaint, on April 30 the Randolph County Sheriff Department received a public service call from the 911 center stating that the Davis Medical Center emergency room staff had a juvenile in the ER with marks on the child’s bottom. The ER told 911 that the child may have been abused.

Police were informed that the child was staying at White’s house and that he had smacked the child on the bottom after getting out of the shower, with enough force to leave bruising and red marks with the consistency and shape of a hair brush, the complaint states.

During a forensic interview, the child talked about being smacked with a purple hair brush after getting out of the shower.

According to the complaint, White was interviewed and provided a written statement stating that the child had wet the bed the previous night. He said he told the child to wear a diaper or a pull-up, but the child told him one was not needed. White said he told the child to get up and use the bathroom throughout the night to avoid wetting the bed.

The complaint states that the following morning White asked the child about wetting the bed. After the child said it did happen, White stated he had a brush in his hand and swatted the child on the bottom three times.
