A FIFTY-eight-year-old man has been put on the Sex Offender Register after he admitted possessing and distributing images of children being sexually abused.

Danny Wood, who is now living with a relative in Essex, committed the offences last year while at Great Salkeld, near Penrith.
At Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Peter Bardsley told the court the offences came to light after police raided defendant's address and seized his iPad.

When officers examined it, they found dozens of illegal indecent images of children.
Among them were eight moving images, said the prosecutor. The defendant pleaded guilty to the following offences:

  • That between June 22, 2020, he downloaded 28 indecent child images classed as Category A, the most serious kind of child abuse image.
  • That over the same period, the defendant downloaded 25 Category B child abuse images.
  • That over the same period the defendant downloaded 110 Category C child abuse images.
  • That between August 25 and 28 last year he distributed four indecent images of children.
  • And that between June 22 and August 28 last year he was in possession of 11 prohibited images of children.

Jeff Smith, for Wood, said the defendant accepted his offences were too serious to be dealt with by magistrates and that sentence would have to be passed by a judge at Carlisle Crown Court.

Magistrates agreed and asked the Probation service to prepare a pre-sentence background report on the defendant. Wood was granted bail and will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on January 28.

He gave the court a current address of Little Baddow Road,Woodham Walter, Maldon, Essex.
