A Wichita Falls man pleaded guilty Monday to sexually abusing a 12-year-old child, court records show.

Daymond Clyde Owens was set for trial Monday morning in 89th District Court, but Owens pleaded guilty and was placed on probation as part of a plea bargain, according to court files.

Owens, 43, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact in connection with Dec. 4, 2015, incidents, according to court documents.

Eighty-ninth District Judge Charles Barnard put Owens on 10 years of deferred-adjudication probation and ordered him to pay in $1,500 fines and $815 in court costs, court documents show.

Aggravated sexual assault of a child is punishable by up to life in prison. Indecency with a child carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.

If Owens successfully completes the terms of his community supervision, he will avoid convictions on his record.

Owens must pay a $1,400 general fine and a $100 child abuse prevention fine, court filings show. He must also register as a sex offender.

The age of the child was listed as 11 in police affidavits, but as 12 on the judgements filed Monday for Owens' cases.

He is not allowed to directly communicate with or go near the victim during the term of his probation, according to his conditions of community supervision.

Owens must also stay in the sexual abuse treatment program until he completes it successfully or his term of probation expires, according to the conditions.

Law-enforcement authorities say Owens assaulted a child spending the night at his home on Dec. 4, 2015, waking the child up from sleeping multiple times, according to allegations in police affidavits. The child told Owens to stop what he was doing.

The child reported the assaults to family members and Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, according to allegations in court documents. Owens had denied the accusations.
